Description:

Abstract:: This line data set represents most, if not all, of the lobsters captured and recaptured during the University of Rhode Island, Department of Fisheries, Animal, and Veterinary Science Department tag and release study. Rhode Island lobstermen and URI staff and students tagged lobsters and noted location, sex, disease, and other variables. Lines were created from capture and recapture locations as an approximation of lobster migration in Narragansett Bay.
Purpose:: Data on tagged lobsters was migrated to a GIS for research and scientific applications.

Process_Description:

Caught lobsters in Narragansett Bay or Rhode Island Sound were tagged and data recorded on all lobsters captured. When tagged lobsters were recaptured, cooperating fishermen returned tags to the URI-FAVS Dept. for processing quality checking. Excel spreadsheets were created from tag information. Migration lines were developed using capture and recapture locations and ArcInfo generate files. Attribute infomation was later joined to the table using the DBASEINFO command.
