Acknowledgements
The Estuary Program entered into a cooperative agreement with the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to perform the inventory of coastal
habitats with technical support from the University of Massachusetts-Natural
Resources Assessment Group. The Estuary Program also formed a partnership
with the University of Rhode Island-Environmental Data Center to
perform geographic information system (GIS) services.
Ralph
Tiner was project officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,
Regional Wetland Coordinator. Gabrial D’Alessio, U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service provided technical assistance.
Helen
Cottrell, under the direction of Richard Ribb, Director, served
as project officer for the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program, secured
grant funding, coordinated the aerial over flight, provided project
oversight, and reviewed draft maps and project reports.
Irene
Huber and Todd Nuerminger, from the University of Massachusetts,
Natural Resources Assessment Group, under the direction of Dr. Peter
Veneman, performed the original photo-interpretation and cartographic
work, data quality control, and prepared the final report. Additional
support was provided by Mary Johnson, graduate student at the University
of Massachusetts, and Meagan Shaffer, Natural Resources Assessment
Group.
Aimee
Mandeville of the University of Rhode Island, Environmental Data
Center, created the GIS database, maps, statistical summaries and
tables, and assisted with project coordination.
Steve Granger and Benjamin Allen, URI-Graduate School of Oceanography
assisted with planning the aerial overflight and reviewed draft
maps. Walley Fulweiler and Mike Traber, URI Graduate School of Oceanography;
Chris Powell, RIDEM Fish and Wildlife; and Andy Lipsky, Save The
Bay reviewed the draft maps.
Jon
Speaker and Tom Iarossi, RIDEM Water Resources-Shellfish Program;
Officers Frances Ethier and Edward Cabral, RIDEM Enforcement; and
Larry Constantine, Block Island Harbor Master, provided and operated
boats to transport biologists into the field, and assisted with
aquatic bed verification. Leslie Katz, Brown University, also assisted
with field work. Art Ganz and John Gingerella, RIDEM Fish and Wildlife
are also acknowledged for their information on aquatic beds.
